Kingfisher Industrial has officially launched its next-generation smart wireless AbrAlarm Early Wear Detection System, following a preview at this year’s Hillhead Exhibition, where it attracted strong industry interest.
Building on the proven performance of the original AbrAlarm, the new wireless platform provides a smarter, more flexible solution for monitoring wear across critical plant equipment while significantly reducing installation time and cost.
Designed for industries where abrasion and erosion are constant maintenance challenges, the wireless AbrAlarm continuously monitors high-wear assets including process pipework and other critical equipment. By providing early warning before excessive wear leads to failure, the system enables maintenance teams to move from reactive repairs to planned, condition-based maintenance, helping to reducing operational disruption.
Each wireless receiver communicates with up to 100 individual sensors, providing extensive coverage across a facility without the complexity of hard-wired monitoring systems and If wear is detected, the system automatically sends an email alert within seconds. As part of the system, Kingfisher offer a three-tier monitoring support package: Fully monitored, self-monitored using Kingfisher software or integration into existing customer monitoring systems. Each tailored option enables businesses to schedule repairs before damage escalates into an unexpected and costly shutdown.
The wireless architecture delivers substantial installation savings by removing the need for extensive wiring and the associated infrastructure. It eliminates the requirement for scaffolding or access equipment that would otherwise be needed to route and secure wiring on elevated process pipework and plant, reducing costs, minimising disruption and improving safety during commissioning.
Beyond reducing unplanned downtime and extending asset life, the system can also help prevent serious environmental and safety incidents. In sectors such as chemical processing, early identification of wear allows maintenance to be carried out before pipe or vessel failure occurs, reducing the risk of hazardous leaks or critical spillages while supporting safer, more reliable operations.
